pilotfish are known for the mutualistic relationship they share with sharks: sharks don’t eat the pilotfish and protect them from predators, and the pilotfish keep the sharks clean and healthy. pilotfish tend to hang around boats, leading sailors to believe they “pilot” the ships back to shore. their name also comes from how they lead sharks to their prey
the hagfish has a long eel-like body covered in special glands that produce sticky slime. the slime is very strong and difficult to remove. the hagfish can produce large amounts of slime at once and can actually sneeze out slime if its nostrils get clogged. hagfish have badly developed eyes and rely on their strong sense of smell and touch- they feel around using the tentacles near their mouth
